Land for peace doesn't seem to work
So how about money for peace?
From the comments section of Megan McArdale's blog
The underpants gnome theory of Israel/Palestine
It's like the hardliners have an underpants gnome theory of expansion:1) Build settlements
2) ???
3) Greater IsraelQuick, while they're still poor, pay them to leave. Hell, if Saddam Hussein (rot in hell) could offer $25K per suicide bomber, Israel could (at very VERY great expense) do $10K per man, woman child.
This seems reasonable, but only if they go far away. It seems it would be better as a strategic matter if they were encouraged to disperse across many countries and cities within them. This would surely be a policy to promote assimilation.
If not, maybe you could make a deal with Dubai. They are far enough away, value money, and need a growing workforce too. 10 grand to Palestinians, free transportation, and 1000 to the host country. But you have to bring your spouse and your minor children or no deal.
At 2,611,904 in the West Bank and 1,537,269 in the Gaza Strip. that's just under 50 billion bucks. That's less than 3 years of the Israel Defense Forces budget and is about 10 years per capita income.
Hell, you could even structure it as deposits in banks Israeli, European or American banks to protect their income from looting by despotic governments.
