Cushy government jobs
There are at least 88 internal White House staff, not including the vice presidential staff, residency staff, and members of the OMB who make over $100 dollars a year. "By law, President Bush’s salary is $400,000. The vice president’s compensation in 2006 is $212,100."
According to Wikipedia with data from the US census, 15.82% of American households made $100,000 or more.
Contrary to the oft repeated statement that the president is the highest paid Federal Employee, until recently, it was Paul Johnson, who was paid $1.1 million a year to coach football at Navy.
If you consider the employees of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac federal employees by virtue of their implicit debt guarantees, then their CEOs are probably the highest paid federal employees.
A few other pay scales for senior government officals:
President $400,000
Vice President $212,100
Speaker of the House $212,100
House Majority & Minority Leaders $183,500
House/Senate Members & Delegates $165,200
Chief Justice, Supreme Court $212,100
Associate Justices, Supreme Court $203,000
Salaries for Members of Congress, Supreme Court Justices, and the President
