A cute if sad article
Foreign Policy magazine has a piece (The FP Memo: The Endgame in Iraq) where they took a memo from the Vietnam war, and by making the following replacements, got it to seem as though it described the current situation in Iraq.
Iraq for Vietnam
Insurgents for Communists
The enemy for Hanoi
Iraq for the South
Iranian for Soviet
Insurgent for Revolutionary
Al Qaeda for "some Communist parties"
Jihadist for leftist
The Middle East for Southeast Asia
Muslim world for Third world
and
Terrorist for Communist insurgency
A neat parlor trick, and one that I'm sure would work with judicious substitution on just about an memo written about any war that wasn't going well, fun interesting never the less.
