I pretty much have always hated swiss army knives. Somehow they never really end up working out for me . On the other hand the leatherman, and its many knockoffs seem to work quite well. I think that the real secret is this: You only need three tools a screw driver, a knife and a pair of pliers. The rest is just silliness.

I've enjoyed the mini-saw and the tweezers, but I agree with your general point, that the leathermen and Sog tools feel more useful and durable. I especially enjoy my leatherman wave, which has rounded edges that allow more comfortable torque generation.
