You find the strangest pretty things on flicker

Found on flicker. This is the city of Cologne, which was damaged in the "night of the 1000 Bombers" at May 30th in 1942.

Wow, that's an amazing photo.
The Dom survived not *un*damaged, but not blown to rubble; it's still there, standing (enormously) tall. Sadly, the rest of the center of town, though it has some cool Roman ruins in museums, has lots of ugly 50s buildings. (As you can understand from the pic).
