Great gifts
My mom gets me much better than I thought she did. She bought me five books for my birthday and three of them were on my amazon wishlist, which she hadn't seen. One of them I'd read a review about and thought, "hey that'd be an interesting book" but it never made it to my wish list, and just sounded really cool.
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

Never Let Me Go

I started Bringing Down the House recently, but lost interest quickly, as it felt more novella-like than specifically discussing their techniques. (Given, the main character was still in training when I stopped, so I didn't get to see him in action). Let me know what you think!
Also, I'm interested in your take on Freakonomics, as it's been promoted everywhere but I don't know much about it.

I'm about 3/5ths done and I'd say you are wrong. The book goes into a fair bit of detail of the general strategy of blackjack, as well as into the specifics of their multi-man card counting system. The thing that bothered me about it is that it all sounds a bit too put together, a bit too fake, to ever be what actually happened. I mean, who remembers dialog like that? They sound too much like TV characters. That said, I've found it a lightning fast, easy, and entertaining read.

Just finished the book. The last 4 pages or so are dedicated to a more detailed explanation of the card counting system.
His next book, ugly Americans, is supposed to also be good.
