Why is the NYC board of education such a cesspool?
How much do you think the United States Taxpayers spend per student on public education? $6,638
New York City does substantially worse then the average educationally.
Guess what NYC spending per student is:
$10,513

We all know that the "cost of living" is significantly higher in NYC than in most average places. Apparently so is the "cost of a shitty education."
Besides, I'm willing to bet most of that money never sees a classroom. Exhibit A: the lack of things one would expect to find in abundance in schools - things like paper.
How's a corrupt bureaucrat supposed to make a living?
OneEyedMan says ...
The first point is valid but nearly irrelevent. However, the largest source of the high cost of high living in NYC is the rent. Recall that the Board of Ed owns its buildings and land. So, sure, its labor costs are higher; their only real increased expense is higher salaries to the employees. The second point, is dead on and of course was my point, the rest of that money is squandered.
